Ordering Tips – Roman Blind

STYLE

  • Barrel/acorn:
If barrel/acorn colour is not specified, chrome will be supplied.
  • Cleat:
If cleat colour is not specified, chrome will be supplied.
  • Cord lock:
Used for cord operated roman blinds to lock the blind into the desired position, rather than relying on the cleat. Not recommended and not covered by BQ warranty for all roman blind styles with translucent polyester or lightweight lining, Full Panel unlined RB4, Soft Gather RB6 and Casual Fold RB8 blinds. Also not recommended on blinds installed in window recess, corners, under pelmets or butting bays, due to angle required to unlock mechanism to release the cord and large blinds where  width exceeds 2400mm and/or drop exceeds 2100mm.
  • Chain (for blinds with a headrail system):
If chain colour is not specified, white plastic chain will be supplied. Chain length is approximately 2/3 of the blind drop,
unless otherwise specified. Plastic chains are supplied in 25cm increments.
  • Chain tensioner:
A clear chain tensioner will be supplied. For recessed blinds we can also provide white, birch white, or black round shaped tensioners, on request.

FABRIC

  • Lining:
RB6/RB8: translucent polyester lining is recommended and standard. Other lining options are available but the blind will not be covered by BQ Design’s production warranty.
  • Print/Patterned fabric:
    • If using a print/patterned fabric ensure the blind style selected compliments the fabric. RB2, RB4 and RB5 style roman blinds have horizontal seams in the face fabric so choose a pattern such as vertical stripes so the pattern wont be interrupted on the finished blind.
    • BQ will pattern match at vertical fabric joins on wider width blinds, ensuring the pattern is not interrupted and joins are almost invisible.
    • Provide BQ with the details of your pattern repeat, as additional fabric may be required, especially if the fabric has a large pattern repeat.
    • For multiple blinds in the same room please notify BQ, so we can ensure:
      • pattern at the top of all blinds will be the same, even if blinds are of varying drops.
      • pattern flows from one blind edge into the next blind edge where separate blinds butt/adjoin, if the fabric design permits. There will be a minimal gap between the cloth of the adjoining blinds.
      • pattern flows across other blinds and possibly curtains installed in the same room.

    Contast bands and trims:

  • For blinds with a contrast band or decorative trim added to the blind base or inset from base, when the blind is fully raised the base of the blind will sit below the stack so the contrast band or trim is visible.

    OPTIONAL FEATURES & SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

    • Batten alignment:
If multiple blinds in same room and battens are to line up, please specify requirements.
    • Lining strips:
Placed over horizontal stitch lines in blockout lining to stop light filtering through stitch holes. Assist with complete light blockout. Colour matched to lining. White and ivory strips available.
    • Side flaps:
Fabric flaps attached to blind headboard both sides of blind, to conceal side view of lifting componentry. Used for face fixed blinds. Standard length is 150mm or 170mm for motorised blinds or request alignment with stack.
    • Double fold at top:
A fabric fold (in main fabric) can be added to the blind headboard to hide componentry seen through sheer, translucent or screen fabric and create a pelmet look. We make the blind with a finished drop longer than required and then fold the blind fabric at the top. Additional fabric is required. Suitable for blind styles with battens only and not available with motorised blinds. Double fold at base is also available.
    • Front flap at top:
A fabric flap can be added to the blind headboard to hide componentry seen through sheer unlined fabrics. The flap sits directly behind the blind main fabric. It is made with the main fabric and is lined with a thin wood to ensure complete blockout. It is the same width as the blind and has a standard finished drop of 80mm or 100mm to hide larger motors, or request an alternate size. Additional fabric may be required. A front flap can also be requested to hide blind componentry visible through windows from outside. The flap will instead sit on the window glass side of the headboard.
